Ha, womens studies girls. I understand that a lot of people who claim to be feminists do so without a very clear idea of what that actually entails. It gets tedious when every damn piece of literature is analyzed from a feminist perspective, especially when the feminist perspective has no actual context in the work. However, I find it even more tedious when a view is rejected because the presentor is "another one of those (blank) people." Another one of those existentialists, another one of those feminists, another one of those conservatives. It is not an intelligent way to refute those approaches, it is just as lazy and unorganized a cop out as 'those (blank) people' are accused of taking. I've been finding this attitude of dismissal amongst people increasingly irritating. It is not cool to have a strong opinion, and if you do its assumed that you are just a whiner, an extreamist of some sort. I'm so fucking tired of luke warm attitudes, of luke warm dreams and aspirations and conversations. Of course every strong opinion won't have a perfectly solid foundation, but the person offering said opinion shouldn't just be catagorized, and then their ideas dismissed as an over zelouse result of belonging to that particular catagorization. This is where discussion and debate are meant to take place. Not dismissal, not that 'holier than thou' attitude of kids who think that they are being liberal and correct and intelligent by always treading the middle ground. ALWAYS treading the middle ground is an excuse to not think. It is an excuse never to have to defend anything, or to take risks. It is infuriating, especially in that it's an approach that has become so prevelant. And I feel like an idiot, because it is a quality that I easily recognize in myself sometimes.

(ps. this is not an attack on the person who made the women's studies comment, its just that that comment reminded me of a whole lot of things that have been irking me lately.)
